Songs of Advent

As son of David, the promised Messiah was born into a singing family. Many of the songs about the coming king were composed and sung centuries before his arrival in the little town of Bethlehem. Among them are passages that Jesus quoted in reference to himself, and later after Jesus' resurrection, these songs were prominent in the preaching of the apostles. What light do they shed on who Jesus is? What do we learn from them about what he comes to do?
